Jubilee Party - Monday June 4th 2012

The Jubilee Street Party was regarded as a great success by all who attended - many thanks go to Julie Hoather and her team of volunteers for taking time and effort to organise it, and to everyone who turned up on the day! In particular, it allowed people to meet and talk with other residents of the estate, and for the children to play together communally. Many people said that they hope that something along the same lines could be organised again, sooner rather than having to wait for another royal jubilee.

Funds raised from the street party were forwarded to the Duchess Of Kent House charity, who very kindly responded with the following letter and a certificate of appreciation: click on the images on the left to see these, though the text of the letter is reproduced below. The Grange Pre-school also received a similar amount which they have used to buy some IT equipment and which was very well received.

"Dear Ms Hoather

Donation: Kenilworth Avenue & Winser Drive Street Party

On behalf of Duchess of Kent House Charity I would like to thank you and your neighbours for your kind donation of £175.70. I hope that you all enjoyed the street party and thank you for thinking of donating the funds raised to us.

To date Duchess of Kent House Charity has given £2.3 million to the NHS hospice of the same name to pay for staff, equipment and training that the health service can't afford, greatly benefitting local patients with life-shortening diseases. The money you have donated directly supports the Psychologists, Diversional and Complementary Therapists, the Befriending Service, the Chaplaincy, Bereavement / Family Support Service and much more. The charity raises £500,000 a year to fund these services and to buying much needed medical equipment, helping 1000 patients and their families alike.

Duchess of Kent House hospice celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2012 and there will be several commemorative events. As always, the independent Duchess of Kent House Charity continues to support local palliative care in the hospice and in the community it serves, exclusively in this part of Berkshire concentrating on Newbury, Reading, Wokingham and surrounding districts.

Once again, thank you so much for your contribution and support - without it thousands of local patients and their families would not get the care they desperately need and deserve.

Yours thankfully,

George A Solly Charity Director of Fundraising"
